What’s The Procedure: Taking Surveillance Data to Social Media

Pablo Cabrera

Presented by Pablo Cabrera at the 92nd Annual Mosquito and Vector Control Association of California (MVCAC) Conference in Monterey, CA.

Vector control districts across the state rely on multiple methods to disseminate important information to residents they serve in a timely and accessible manner. Social media channels have become an essential tool, but with ever-evolving algorithms and content creators, the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito Vector Control District continues to expand its reach by strategically using surveillance data, engaging partners, geo-targeting locations, and adapting to the needs and likes of its diverse population. While the District utilized all available platforms to share information about mosquitoes and West Nile virus, engaged member cities, and targeted residents using strategic ad placements, the tools developed to assist cities amplified the District’s reach and messaging.
