How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes
There may be two reasons why you keep seeing mosquitoes in your yard or patio: production and resting sites.
Mosquitoes grow from egg to adult in about 7 days!
Removing stagnant water and eliminating containers that can hold water is the most effective, pesticide-free way to prevent mosquitoes.
1. Eliminate Stagnant Water
Identify sources around your home or apartment complex, and tip out the water and toss out the source. Prevent any water from being stored in an open container.

2. Remove Mosquito Resting Sites
We love our lush, green neighborhoods, but so do mosquitoes!
Humid and shady plants provide mosquitoes protection from the sun's heat and any wind.
One group of mosquitoes, called Aedes (also known as ankle biters), are notorious for hanging out in dense vegetation. Some of the following types of vegetation are commonly found around homes:
- Ivy
- Hedges
- Dense bushes (can't see through to the other side)
- Potted plants too close together
- Overgrown plants
Landscaping with California native plants and reducing dense vegetation is a great way to keep your yard's ecosystem healthy and more mosquito-free!
3. Don't forget to use mosquito repellent!
Like cockroaches and other pests, mosquitoes will always be present in our cities. Using repellent will allow you to enjoy being outdoors. Learn more about the best repellents to stay bite-free!
