Operation “Tip This House”: L.A. County Public Health Agencies to Hold Outbreak Preparedness Exercise
On Saturday morning, June 9, 2018, Vector Control staff will conduct a “boots on the ground” exercise in partnership with trained Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and Public Health Emergency Volunteers (PHEV).
The goal is to encourage residents to tip and toss stagnant water to deter invasive Aedes mosquitoes. Teams will conduct door-to-door yard inspections and mosquito control treatments (as needed) in a Santa Fe Springs neighborhood – one of many communities in Los Angeles County with Aedes mosquitoes.
The training exercise will increase public awareness of the Aedes mosquito threat and gives public health agencies an opportunity to improve existing response strategy.
Invasive Aedes mosquitoes in L.A. County have the potential to transmit Zika, dengue fever, yellow fever and chikungunya to people. Since 2015, there has been more than 120 travel-related cases of Zika in L.A. County.
